Better Than Today

  • I beat my head against the keyboard, insides squirming, trying to dredge my homework from the liquid abyss that is my bear-trap of a mind..

Better Than Today

Better Than Today

Under different circumstances
I might have been persuaded,
To wander in your garden
beyond the picket fence.
To wallow in my yesterdays
Rivers of tears and sorrow,
Gathering the memories
To fill my emptiness.

Somehow it all seems in vain
Like forever chasing rainbows,
When in reality all that remains
is now lost within the shadows.
Visions of landscapes, of skies and seas
And dreams of brighter days,
Fade with the memories of you and me
Like beach sand washed away.

Under different circumstances
I might have dreamed of you,
Back when love was youthful
Powerful, strong and true.
Back when I was younger
In a picture perfect frame of mind,
Long forgotten the worries of today
In a carefree place in time.

Somehow it all seems to change
From better then to worse,
Like an unknown poet searching for
the perfect rhyming verse.
Visions of a future filled
with peace and harmony,
In my endless quest for love
Just what will become of me?

Under different circumstances
I might have had the time,
To find a moment in my life
To gain some peace of mind.
Maybe then I would have chosen
A different path to follow,
A path that would have led me to
A tomorrow better than today.

Bravo, I was working on a poem called "Autumn Sun", but after reading this my draft seems... unworthy. I welcome you fellow poet [well poetess] to the site!

Many thanks to you, Helios. I'm not all that confident about my writing, but I thought that this would widen my horizons. I'd love to see your work, and I'll rate them!

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.
