Stones In The Road

Stones In The Road

So unpretentious and seemingly benign

But oh how deceptive, these doubts in my mind

Awaiting the moment to throw me for a loop

When most unexpected, like a hair in my soup

Like a full dress rehearsal awaiting my cue

To go through the motions of dancing with you

The world fades and softens like wind in the pines

Then the doubts spring from nowhere, like long forgotten lines

We sit in the twilight with feelings sublime

Our hearts joined forever, suspended in time

Then without warning, the doubts come so soon

Like an ominous storm cloud that covers the moon

I find myself longing for your sweet embrace

With eyes closed so tightly, I still see your face

I picture us walking through grain fields of gold

Then the doubts cut so deeply, like stones in the road

Robert C. Taylor

Again a beautiful write, what makes this so great is your unexpected metaphors. You have great pacing and rhythm, but never does it become childish or sing-songy. It is meant to be in the form it is, because it's form is truthfully eloquent!

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
