    Sleep & Wake

    I sleep to forget

    The violence in me,

    The want to destroy

    Takes over me.

    I wake and remember

    All of the pain,

    The agony that you’re

    Never coming again.

    I sleep to forget

    The horrors I’ve seen,

    The death, destruction,

    And betrayal that’s been.

    I wake and remember

    The worst is to come,

    The rejection and loss

    In your final “um”.

    I sleep to forget

    What I wake and remember.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
