shine up your soul
shine up your soul
then maybe I'll relieve you
tell me the distinction
between what you are and what you do?
meet me between Babylon and Alexandria
find the hidden knowledge on the other side of the dimly glowing rainbow
shout it out loud, sing it, whisper it,
plant it with the seeds of turning at the crossroads
and let it grow.
shine up your soul,
bring me the white flower
that thrust itself, struggling,
from the dry sand, the cracked earth,
that was watered by the blood of the innocent,
but maintained its purity through the blazing sun
and the skies that refused to open.
shine up your soul,
meet me between Memphis and New Orleans
wrap yourself around the guitar strings
of those who are most faithful to their song
throw your mind into their crying praise
and look through their blind eyes
that you may see again.
shine up your soul,
tell me so I can tell you
whether you are right or not
and if it matters at all
bring me your dreams that realized themselves in monochrome
and never really understood exactly how color worked,
or why the sun rises
or when the night falls
but they were waiting for you to ask a question
they were just waiting to be whole
and they're still waiting for you to shine up your soul.
then maybe I'll relieve you
tell me the distinction
between what you are and what you do?
meet me between Babylon and Alexandria
find the hidden knowledge on the other side of the dimly glowing rainbow
shout it out loud, sing it, whisper it,
plant it with the seeds of turning at the crossroads
and let it grow.
shine up your soul,
bring me the white flower
that thrust itself, struggling,
from the dry sand, the cracked earth,
that was watered by the blood of the innocent,
but maintained its purity through the blazing sun
and the skies that refused to open.
shine up your soul,
meet me between Memphis and New Orleans
wrap yourself around the guitar strings
of those who are most faithful to their song
throw your mind into their crying praise
and look through their blind eyes
that you may see again.
shine up your soul,
tell me so I can tell you
whether you are right or not
and if it matters at all
bring me your dreams that realized themselves in monochrome
and never really understood exactly how color worked,
or why the sun rises
or when the night falls
but they were waiting for you to ask a question
they were just waiting to be whole
and they're still waiting for you to shine up your soul.
