We chat on the phone and GOD knew this was our last time.

In the white haze I talk to you
    With tubes attached you sleep
Can you feel my presence, or is this just wishful thinking

The phone call comes and my only desire is to be dreaming
These words I hear cannot be true

My heart is heavy and tears well up as I approach to say good-bye
It is myself I cry for, you are safe with HIM
This is not you lying there
Your sprit is among your friends as we console each other
The grief we share is for our loss of you

Knowing the wooden box will soon disappear into the earth, the mourners depart
As the rain of tears continues, I stand alone to speak my final good-bye

Memories flood my mind of the times we shared
I can hear your laughter and feel the warmth of understanding
A speck of calm touches my soul

At this time I know the tears will fade
    I will still miss you
But your love and friendship will forever be locked in my heart

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
