Poem Commentary

Pretty sure we all have a friend like this...

Runner-up

I know love
Somehow I do
I see it in their eyes
When they talk of you

So pretty and perfect
Who wouldn't be taken?
So charming and fun
My image is shaken

I can't stand by you
It just isn't liveable
'Cause when i'm there
I turn invisible

I'm the rock
You're the gem
I dont blame you
Or even them

The only one I resent
Is simply me
Because apparently, perfect,
I can't be.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
