    Rivers Cry

Stars twinkle on a black canvas as the breeze gentle rustles the leaves
The River sings a mournful song of memories of long ago
Of greatness it once knew but now can never show.
You’ve robbed me of my beauty! It cries
My life giving flow is fading!
So much life depends on me, but they now are dieing away.
What can sway the hearts of men?
    Why can’t you understand?
Soon I will be nothing more but a dry desert waste land.

Great work! The whole Earth is crying right now, a victim of mankind's greed, but I've always found it especially sad when I visit a creek or river where I waded or fished as a child only to find it polluted, channelized, stripped of trees, or drying up completely.

Excellent poem.We need to preserve our natural resources for all of the gifts that they give us.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
