    Relapse

    Dark thoughts flashing
    quickly by-passing
    the logical lapses
    in my brains synapses
    quietly amassing
    the means for relapsing
    screaming in my brain
    "this is not happening"

    Thinking in squares
    head pounding like snares
    throwing off flares
    of pain everywhere
    I'm suddenly aware
    iridescent fish scale
but I'm dead if I dare
    to pop that vein
    or draw that rail.

Thank you, this poem was meant to be read quickly until "iridescent fish scale" which intentionally disrupts the flow just like drugs will do..then back in rhythm like the realization that "drugs are bad...mmmkay" lol

Interestingly, I think this poem forces the reader to read this in a fast pace - which suits the poem itself. Nicely done.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
