One Way Streets - First Draft

I walk that one way street counting the steps which I have taken
Trying not to count them backwards
Trying not to wish for an exit
My head turns to look behind me
At the long path I'll never take again
    My brain absorbs the signs
    All pointing forward
    Never back
    No choice
    No question
    No return
I walk that one way street called Regret counting the steps which I have taken

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
