Ode to a Vampire
I saw one the other night, or rather It saw me.
As I was walking down a crowded street,
It passed me so gracefully.
For a brief eternity Its eyes caught mine,
And in that moment our minds entwined.
Suddenly there was no one, except Its white face,
My heartbeat quickened and my pulse began to race.
Its eyes saw right through me and touched my very soul,
It forced visions into me, that yet beautiful, seemed so cold.
In my mind I saw children dancing in the night,
Jumping and howling madly, beneath the pale moonlight.
I saw myself walking through a dark and dreary place,
Then I saw It gliding towards me and I felt Its strong embrace.
I looked into Its eyes, the colors ever changing,
I gasped and cringed softly, their depth never ranging.
My feeling was utter ecstasy, that abruptly turned to fear,
When Its red lips parted slightly and I saw Its teeth so clear.
Fangs they were and lightly they glistened,
I choked back a scream and I quietly listened.
It spoke to me but Its mouth moved not,
Its eyes suddenly red like coals burning hot.
" Would you have it my child ?" It said with finesse,
Its voice was so smooth that it seemed to caress.
Its brow knitted slightly and Its grin was so ghastly,
" What ?" I asked shakily and It whispered, " Life everlasting."
Terror and fear washed through me, my body went limp on buckled knees,
Tears welled in my eyes and I cried out, " No...Please !"
When I came back to my senses, I was standing in the same crowded spot,
My clothes were bathed in sweat and my skin was prickled and hot.
The street was active like it was before,
And as my head cleared the volume grew higher.
When I looked around and It was gone, I thought to myself, " Vampire !"
Nervously and quickly I made my way home,
Turning and looking often to make sure I was alone.
The one thing that haunted me when this ordeal was after,
The single thing my mind could not shake,...
Was Its silent laughter.
