my soldier not home for Christmas
i made a dash for the snow outside
to mask the pain i cannot hide.
your promise broken once more, this year,
of coming home - i hoped. with fear.
what Christmas is it again for me -
with you out fighting, i, forcing glee?
will you keep safe, and keep the faith -
for amid the tears, here i will wait.
love hurts because you are at war.
this truth many in silence, bear.
once more, this year, it'll just be me,
the snow, the fireplace, and the tree.
to mask the pain i cannot hide.
your promise broken once more, this year,
of coming home - i hoped. with fear.
what Christmas is it again for me -
with you out fighting, i, forcing glee?
will you keep safe, and keep the faith -
for amid the tears, here i will wait.
love hurts because you are at war.
this truth many in silence, bear.
once more, this year, it'll just be me,
the snow, the fireplace, and the tree.
