Mulberry Tree
I remember the secret place only you and I shared.
Your company, among other's, could not be compared.
Nestled in a corner of the field, in which the others played.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the school yard you and I would stray.
The canopy offered us a quiet sanctuary high above the ground.
Surrounded by a velvet sweetness, mulberies abound.
On our backs we'd pick the berries and at the sky we'd stare.
Time escaped, while our thoughts between us we would share.
That was our special space in time, I will always remember.
As you and I looked forward to harvesting the berries begining in November.
I wonder now, if in that corner our haven amidst the branches still remains.
Just as the mosaic of varying shades of velvet the mulberries would stain.
Or has it vanished, nolonger to produce that sweet taste I long for.
And unable to quench my desire to be there once more.
My prayer is that it offered the same sweet paradise to another.
Who could share it with a special someone as I once did with you, my brother.
Con mucho amor y carino a una amistad perdida.
