    Much To Ask

Is it really that much to ask
To want to have at least one person
Who will hold you when you need serurity
    To stand by your side
When it seems every other person has left
When the friends you once knew come to hate you
Is it really that much to ask
To have one person where you know
Won't turn their back on you

It's almost like my mind has shut down
Protecting itself from the fear, the hurt, and the anger
To make the tears not come out
Is it really too much to ask
    To have just one person
    It's all I need
To know they care, that they're there
To hold you tight and tell you it'll be alright

Really, is it too much to ask?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
