    ...Looking Out

Once I was a mighty oak
Standing in a field of stone.
I was surrounded by the masses,
    But I was all alone.
    I was trapped inside!
With a million souls watching me.
    I was looking out!
At a world in which I'd never be.

Now I'm just a grain of sand
    Inside an hour-glass.
    Falling from the future,
I transcend the present to the past.
    I'm trapped inside!
With a million souls just like me.
    I'm looking out!
At a world in which I'll never be.

    Soon I'll be a memory
    Like an early morning fog.
    A kaleidoscope of poetry
About the life and loves I lost.
    I'll be free!
Like millions of souls before me.
    I'll be looking out!
    At a world that I won't need.

Beautifully written. Great read for the early morning raiser. I enjoyed this very much. You have a way with words that just pull at the strings of my heart. Love the flow. Keep writing and sharing.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
