Looking For Life

I've been down for so long,
just fighting for air.
I almost can't remember,
who I am anymore.
I've been left in the dark,
just searching for light.
I'll never give up,
but I'm too tired to fight.
I'm looking for life,
but I won't find it here.
You say there is hope?
Well, I can't see through tears.
Tell me, what is love?
I can't seem to remember...
I've just fallen to these depths,
or have I been here forever?
I'm aching to fly,
just to be free,
but the song of the ages,
won't let me find peace.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
