Keep My Soul

Keep My Soul

Keep my soul
Oh God
My God
please
keep my soul
I am loosed from within
and easily swayed
Like a rose that swells to beauty
then drops it's petals
in brown and withered shame
Oh, keep my soul
I can see over the edge
I have leaned over
and the ground felt firm
but oh, the vast and deep
ocean of pain
the vacant eyes
black chasms of sin
they don't even know my name
but God you do
save me from myself
let me remember this
no more
oh please God, please
pierce my heart
that I might feel...something
anything
take my life
do all that you must
I am weakened
and pushing toward the edge
as I've always been
but I pray
how I pray
for you to keep my soul
because I can't hold myself
or ever be anything
but the dust that I am
please dear God
when I walk alone
I think and do
and not from you
just please, please, please
keep my soul.

This is an exceptionally heartfelt and exquisitely feminine cry of despair in lament of the poet's perceived personal human frailties. Excellent work!

I can feel the desperation as you cry out to God. Very good read.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
