Is my life my own?
Is my life my own?
I know I have my freedom
But is my life my own?
I have my personal agency
To choose my way alone
The students that I taught
Will take a part of me
And through their life
Will see the way I see
My boss he shares a part of me
The calluses on my hands
A lot of time is required
To meet my work demands
My brothers taught survival
Sibling rivalry at its best
A part of me stayed with them
When I left the nest
My children they have my genes
I gave the best I had
They have the same DNA
I acquired from mom and dad
Grandchildren are another story
Full of energy all the time
They’re all so doggone cute
You can tell that they are mine
Relatives make demands
I really can’t fulfill
I really don’t have much
To split up in my will
My wife she has all of me
Even when apart
She has my greatest love
My spirit and my heart
Now reflecting on my life
It’s really not my own
Because you have to share it
Or you’ll clearly be alone
So give yourself to others
It offers souls a lift
We always must consider
Life is Heavenly father’s gift
