    INEXPRESSIBLE

    INEXPRESSIBLE

    How can I?
Lift this burden off my heart
    Unshakable tonnes of the unexpressed
    Hercules once invited Achilles
    For this great task
    But how can?

    If only I can paint
    This daughter of Eve
    With rainbow colours
    Garnished with red and roses
    On a canvass of love
    But how can I?
    Paint this Princess Ebony
    With the ordinary
    Tell Michael Angelo
    Colours have lost expression
    Brushes have failed

    If only
    I find the right words
    Seasoned and spiced
    To describe this great work
    Carefully sculptured
    Meticulously adorned
    But alas
    Words lack meaning
    Eloquence is nothing
    But how can I?
    Someone tell me
    Express the inexpressible.

    OLANIRAN Abimbola (December 2008)

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
