Indulgence Of The Dead (Variant Verse)

    Lazarus
    arise
    from hell
    and drink
    the manna
    of christ's blood

    Eat
    the flesh
    of christ's body
    as you show contempt
    for the living

    ...dead
    just want
    to be
    living
    the life of those alive
    or dead.

The morsel of the living was his request.

(Dedicated to the Papist. Happy Halloween.)

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
