    In the mirror

    you have stolen my heart
whether you know it or not
you have tied it in a knot
so that others may never know, what I can give from the start

you stole it from that first moment I saw you in the mirror
with your lips pouting so, it became very clear
    you had stolen my heart
and through it all, the ups, the downs, the lies and loves and untrust
my heart never turned to dust

never gave up on you or on us
there were moments of cracks and uncertainty, torture and pain
    but through it all
I knew that this was the time when I had to shelter it from the rain

to do that, I had to love your heart and your ways
I couldn't let others try to attempt to sway
what I knew from the start
that you had stolen my heart

we have to fight our demons that others have caused
we can't let it end on an ex lovers pause
we can not let others dictate to us what we know to be true
that we were meant to be, Me and you

yes it is hard and scary at times to not want to fail
but we have to let our love sail
thru open waters of midnight blue
to keep in touch to what became of me and you

I don't want to lose you as a lover and a friend
a future wife to share my cold winter nights
I don't want to lose sight of what led me to you
a God who knows more than us, and what is right

I want to lay beside you every night
    and kiss your pouty lips
and bless the day I saw you in the mall
the day my heart did fall
in deep deep love with the woman in the mirror

I like the line 'we cannot let others dictate'. Good concept presented here. This poem has good depth to it.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

    T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
