Poem Commentary

im sorry to say

I'm Sorry

I'm sorry to say
I'm to tired to sleep
So leave me alone
And let me weep
I'm sorry to say
I'm to sick to cry
Why cant you let me
Curl up an die
I'm sorry to say
That I can't go to school
So let me be
Try not to be cruel
I'm sorry to say
That no I don't drink
Thats not why im sick
If thats what you think
I'm sorry to say
I'm to tired to sleep
But iI think i'll lay down
And count a few sheep
I'm sorry to say
That you think I would lie
And hope that you know
That I really do try

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
