If We Go On This Way

I can see you watching me.
You think I’m up to something.
But, I don’t like to trust a smile,
    Just because you’re smiling…

Now I have time to listen.
Say what you have to say.
There won’t be a reason left,
If we go on this way…

The pockets of a free man, are empty if he’s poor.
But he is still a rich man, compared to other shores.
And freedoms never perfect, but I’ll be the first to say.
We’re both gonna come in last, if we go on this way.

    I have heard you’re listening.
    Hope you’re learning something.
I don’t often see you smile,
    Are you really smiling?

    I am learning patience.
    Taking time to pray.
Cause there won’t be a reason left,
If we go on this way…
