    Poem Commentary

Inspiration: The depression after moving to Ut.

    Written in Ut

    I Wonder

    I wonder

    Eagerly
    What my days hold

    Impatiently
    What will unfold

    Silently
    What secrets will be told

    I wonder

    Breathlessly
    When will my days end

    Sinfully
If my broken heart will mend

    Aimlessly
    What message will you send

    I wonder

    Insanely
    Why I do weep

    Angrily
    What my soul does keep

    Exhaustingly
    Will I ever sleep

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
