    I Wish I'd Known

    I wish I knew the When and Who
    of Where it all began.
    I'd find a way to shift Today
    to what is now called, "Then".

    This trip I'd take where you're awake
    (I'd try to throw a line);
    I wish I'd seen. My time machine
    awaits me in my mind.

    Your tears that fell, your living hell--
    could I have altered fate?
    Could one thin voice dissuade your choice,
    and not arrive too late?

    Dear friend, I cry, please tell me why
    no force could make you stay?
    I wish I'd known; 'wish I'd foreseen
    your tragic final day.

    Is this a poem about a friend who committed suicide? If so, this is so sad and I feel your pain. Good write.

    The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
