I wish I were new

    I wish I were new

Frantic conversations that end in a click,

Words deny me what I want to admit.

I look in your direction, every once in a while

    Hoping for a smirk,

    Oh why won’t you smile?

I wish my confidence would return,

     For just an instance,

    So I could reveal………

Oh I wish I were new.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
