I Was There

I Was There

I was there when the light were out,
holding you close without a doubt.
I was there when all we had was each other,
I was your wife, your friend, your lover.
I was there to love you still, but you
left me faster then guns could kill.
I was there when no one else cared,
cooking and cleaning yet no love was spared.
I was there thinking that you would change,
hopeing our love could be less strange.
I was there when you were being unfaithful,
I tried my best to be strong but you were turning me hateful.
I was there through all we did,
I told you everything no secrets hid.
I was there to be your lover,
it was terrible but we had each other.
I was there  before you cheated,
all I did was cry when it was your heart that I needed.
And now im here while you cry on my shoulder,
saying your sorry but now were much older.
All I can say is "I Was There"

You have a good way of expressing what is on your heart. I can empathize with you and the story you tell in this poem

damn this really hits me hard. Ive never been married but i know how touch relationships can be and you said it with such emotion. And your use of words is very creative and it truly seems like its comin from the heart. Very moving poem!!

Thank you I have had hard relationships, that always ended in heart ache but I'm to stronge to let it break me.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
