I still miss you
I’ve grown used to waking up
to the prickly fingers of sun rays
on my lazy brows
It’s seem like I have always had to struggle
against the elements just to tear myself
from your embrace each morning,
kiss you with coffee laced lips
and with eyes following like sun beams
I dash off to chase our dreams
Yet, I miss you…
I grew up with a crush
that was as big as the rocks in Abeokuta
not knowing anything else but to chase
and run wild with you down our old neighbourhood
against the elements we had raged
never without each other
never without a mischief
God, I miss you…
Yeah, we grew up in the age of innocence
We owned the streets, own the keys to our secret alleys
never afraid to indulge in a getaway of our own
never afraid to push the walls of innocence
we danced butt naked in the rains
we were free until ‘wanna be starting something’
and ‘all night long’ stole our youth
Heaven, I miss you…
And I have grown used to waking up with you
With the smell of coffee fueling my drive
the chatter of children drifting in from below
a reminder that water has gone under the bridge
we had our moments but I long to dance
butt naked with you, again
God, it’s raining, and I still miss you…
