I Need To Know the Man

I Need To Know the Man

I need to see the other side, to know what life is all about,
Born in commendation, a human heart that fights with doubt,
I have heard all the story's told by profits, ancient and today,
Truth sometimes gets forgotten in the word games that they play.
I hear what we all want to ask, tell us how to trust in faith,
Through fires of pain and darkness, we close the door of grace,
When sometimes it's because it's all to much to comprehend,
How can we find that place in us, to really take it in,
I have heard the stories told through all the ages, through all time,
There is one way to touch me, for you to own this heart of mine.
I've met the savior of the Bible, offered by a preachers hand,
I'm coming out of clouded doctrine, now I want to know the man.
I want to know the man who hurt sometimes, when friends all turned away,
Sun burned face and weathered hands, who drank from jars of clay,
Who must have wondered why it was, what it was all about,
Who fell in love, and cried sometimes, when sunrise had run out,
I want to know that you can feel each failure that will run me down,
That it is not a mystery, while we all are praying to be found.
Why we hold on to yesterday, and fear the steps beyond life's door,
Savior always, but some days I need the man named Jesus more.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
