Poem Commentary

This poem is about my husband, Loren, who is currently in FT. Leonard Wood for boot camp. He is actively serving the United States Army and is a Mike 88-transportation/truck driver. It is a very dangerous job and he is likely to get sent over seas during his 3 year contract. I hope this poem conveys my worry, support and love. Thank you for reading =]

I Miss You

My husband. My best friend. My soldier.
I miss our night's together, snuggling into your shoulder.
I miss your smell and your laugh; your smile and touch.
Why didn't anyone tell m this would be so tough?
There is a bright side, however. This is it:
  The pain and loneliness is worth it in the end;
It won't be long until I'm in your arms again.
It is said that absense makes the heart grow fonder, well mine swells each and every day for you;
Aching with anticipation for you to come home, I hope you know this to be true.
I miss you, lovie, but I'm so very proud to be your wife;
This is a hard and dangerous job; thank you for risking your life =]

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
