    Help Us Be Free

There was a time when I was in love
With a man who treated me bad.
There was a time when I was abused,
The way he treated me made me so sad.
There was a time when I hid the abuse,
And kept secret, all of the pain.
There was a time when I kept my head down,
I was afraid, and also ashamed.
Then came the day when I found there was help,
Called, and asked how I could get away.
It took me some time to get over that man,
But I did, now I’m no longer afraid.
You know, I used to think that abuse was okay,
So I kept it a secret, that’s how I was raised!
But, then I learned the truth,
    It’s not normal, not fine,
    And if you’re being abused,
You can get freedom like mine.
There are many out there who are trapped with bad men,
And they don’t know how to get free.
They feel alone and are afraid to reach out,
They are hurt, just like I used to be.
Keep your eyes and your hearts open to them,
Reach out and give them your hands.
Help guide them to safety, show them the way.
We can all be released from those bands.

Abuse is still nothing to me, I can't let it go but yet it doesn't affect me, its like nothing ever happened and it doesn't matter, yet I give others advise on how to get out of those problems, I just don't take my own advise, only difference is it's w/ friends and family that abuse me, mentally and physically. But someday I'll get out of it when I'm ready to be saved, but I love this poem.

    thank you

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
