    GRANDMA

    GRANDMA

She may act a little crazy
And her memory may seem hazy
But I can assure you she is sharp as any tack
When you think that she's not looking
'Caus she's way to busy cooking
Don't be fooled, she can see out of her back

With her vacuum she’s a whirling
As she’s singing and a twirling
You would almost think that she was having fun
    What puzzles me the most
Is that she’s deaf as any post
But say any forbidden word and best you run

She can cook, clean and baby-sit
Crochet, knit and make pants fit
She can fix a broken toy or grant a dream
She carries candies, Kleenex, pens and pins
And knows which apron pocket each is in
And bakes cookies for our losing baseball team

Her hugs can mend a broken heart
And assure the world hasn’t fallen apart
There are still so many more fish out in the sea
She sees the good in worst of times
Her faith could make the church bells chime
And all her services come absolutely free

"When a child is born, so are grandmothers"

This is wonderful. I am grandmother myself and I am a bit different from one you described but I am sure in the eyes of my grand children I am similar to your character. This poem is so heart worming and it is very well written also

what a wonderful tribute to grandmothers. Mine fell into some of the categories, but it also reminded me ot other grandmother's I had grown up around. I loved the nostalgic feeling your poem gave me.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
