Gone Down

Gone Down

My bait just got dragged down.

The anchor is on cement ground.

But my boat wasn’t even rowing

And it turns out we’re not quite floating.

Now seems like a good time to learn to swim,

Except my arms are only two limbs,

Which is many less than I need.

Less than the many that keeps my face to brim,

And my chest above water.

Until my chin slides to my chest

And my arms leave me to rest.

Which comes a minuet before my feet feel for the sand,

And my body becomes buried in soil within land.

But my lungs still breathing and feeling the exhale on command,

And my eyes are still seeing and watching the movements of man.

And man, I just want to move on and take somebody’s hand.

But a shake only lasts three seconds.

So take from me if it means I'm sorry.

And you can forget what I just said about nothing.

All I really need is just a good hugging.
