Ghetto Dreams

Ghetto Dreams

A girl is always dreamin’
While the pollution is streamin’
Down the island known as Manhattan.

A girl is always dancin’
While bums are prancin’
On the streets trying to make some cash
Hopin’ their lives will last.

A girl is always cryin’
While people are dyin’
Every second, minute, hour of the day.

A girl is always singin’
While the thugs are always swingin’
In the battle to survive on the streets

A girl is always prayin’
While the preacher is sayin’
The end of the world is near.

A girl is always talkin’
While the people keep on walkin’
Never stoppin’ to listen to a word she has to say.

Ghetto Dreams are always there
For a girl who knows life is unfair
Knowin’ no one cares
The world ignorin’ her song
One day she’ll prove them all wrong
And when she achieves success and
Becomes the best of the best
She’ll laugh in the face of those
Who laughed at her
And then they’ll see
That Ghetto Dreams can become a
Reality.

Optimistic within the oppression. Stay up girl. Good piece.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
