Forgotten

Long after concrete graveyards split the sky

and motorcars choaked the air

after airplanes began to fly

and the city lights would glare

Long after noise was lost

and jungles burned to ash

after everything had cost

and mans last greatest clash

Their fingerprints still touch the earth

but not their industry

not their bombs or guns without worth

or their oil in the sea

Long after the final explosions

and broken hearted pleas

after the final diplomat

signed his last decrees

The evergreen and oak sometimes whisper

to eachother their relief

that no man will ever grip her

and remove her from her feet

Their mention is not in passing

never in their minds

their touch was everlasting

yet long forgotton to the pines

Long after concrete graveyards split the sky

and motorcars choaked the air

after airplanes began to fly

after the city lights would glare

they'll never know we were there

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
