Amidst the Rubble

Amidst the Rubble

Do you blame the face of your savior,
When the skies are burning down
where was he when you called him
Weeping over the worlds sin
Let love and lust be seductive
Let greed and hate be destructive
Allow the world to fall to failure
without a cure
For there is no cure for the wicked
No chance for the departed
Little hope for the stranded
as their pain is not remanded
Can you find a path to redemption
amidst the rubble
Can you see a way to light
When there is no dawn
For it has been long since the earth
has worn the fingerprints of God
Could it be the savior we wish after
was consumed by idle laughter
Do you blame the face of your savior,
When the skies are burning down
Maybe he threw down his crowne
because it was you that lit the fire
Do you blame the face of your savior,
When the skies are burning down
where was he when you called him
Weeping over the worlds sin
Let love and lust be seductive
Let greed and hate be destructive
Allow the world to fall to failure
without a cure
For there is no cure for the wicked
No chance for the departed
Little hope for the stranded
as their pain is not remanded
Can you find a path to redemption
amidst the rubble
Can you see a way to light
When there is no dawn
For it has been long since the earth
has worn the fingerprints of God
Could it be the savior we wish after
was consumed by idle laughter
Do you blame the face of your savior,
When the skies are burning down
Maybe he threw down his crowne
because it was you that lit the fire

Thank you for this reminder. We can only save ourselves by going inward and redesigning our thoughts to suit our needs. Bravo!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
