    Forgive Me

My Father, I come to you a broken man.
Broken because I have let you down.
    I am but human,
And yet I offer that as no excuse.

    Lord, I surrender all.
I submit to your supreme will.
And if I may have but one wish,
I wish that your will be done.

You see, I realize that I am not worthy.
I deserve nothing, and yet I come to you.
I come to ask for forgiveness,
    And to praise your Son.

I come to raise and magnify your name,
    And that of my savior.
My request to you is simple, my Father.
Let your Holy Spirit dwell within me.

    Oh, my Holy Spirit.
The very essence of my Father.
Guide me, lead me, counsel me.
Let only words of praise and faith cross my lips.

If I am to be found worthy,
Then release thy gifts in me.
Allow me to be your vessel.
I seek no glory for myself.

And Father, though I seek your healing touch,
I ask of you, and make this my desire.
Given a choice, I would ask you this.
Heal my loved ones first, and make them whole.

Lord, all your children fall short of your glory.
    And I am their king.
No, I am no Lot. Not by any means.
But Lord, Lot could not love you more.

I have not wandered the desert for forty years,
But my mind has wandered far longer.
So Lord, bring me home to your side,
For I seek your protection and solace.

So, my God, I lay it all out for you to see.
Examine my heart, my very soul.
Purge all that is not of your will.
    And Father, forgive me.

    Forgive me.

    Amen.

if we forgive, we shall also be forgiven. Matthew 6:14-15

Poetry is not the expression of personality but an escape from personality.
