    FOR DADDY

DADDY --- TELL ME THE STORIES, WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG
WHEN YOU GREW UP, A LABORERS SON.
TELL ME DADDY, ABOUT YOUR LIFE,
WHEN YOU ASKED MAMA KAY, TO BE YOUR WIFE.
PLEASE TELL ME ALL, I HAVE TO KNOW
ABOUT THE MAN THAT I LOVE SO.
I NEED TO KNOW THE LIFE YOU HAD
ALL THE GOOD AND ALL THE BAD.
I WANT TO KNOW THE MAN BEHIND THE FACE.
SO STRONG AND HANDSOME AND FULL OF GRACE.
YOU HAD A LIFE, LIKE NO OTHER,
YOU TOOK CARE OF MAMA AND RAISED ALL YOUR DAUGHTERS.
YOU WALKED US DOWN THE AISLE TO WED
YOU PUT YOUR GRANDCHILDREN DOWN TO BED.
KISSED US ALL GOODNIGHT AND WISHED US SWEET DREAMS,
ALWAYS KNOWING WHAT TOMORROW WOULD BRING.
IT WOULD BRING US HAPPINESS AND JOY TO THIS EARTH,
DADDY --- DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR KISSES WERE WORTH?
THEY WERE WORTH MORE TO ME THAN MONEY COULD BUY,
ALL THE MEMORIES THAT I HAVE IN MY LIFE.
THE MEMORIES OF LOVE FOR YOUR FAMILY,
THE WAY THAT LIFE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE.
AND IF IT’S THE LAST THING ON THIS EARTH THAT I DO,
DADDY I MAKE THIS PROMISE TO YOU
TO TELL MY CHILDREN ABOUT THE MAN,
WHO I CALL DADDY AND MY BEST FRIEND.
