FOCUS
Looking at a distance through a window screen
the wires from which it is formed are not seen,
focus on the wires of the screen and without a doubt
what is seen beyond will never be clearly made out.
If you read with your focus only on each word
the understanding you usually get is mostly absurd,
if the words form only pictures in the mind's eye
the exact quotation of the words will pass you by.
Focus is an action we must learn to control
if we're to recognize the picture clearly and whole.
Focus only distantly and you'll miss what is near;
focus only close and things at a distance you'll fear*.
Let your focus alternate between what's near and far
to know where in life's cycle you presently are.
If on one you are focused and the other one you're not
there's no understanding the purpose for your present lot.
*Fear is used here to mean afraid and not
"to proceed with cautious learning as it acually means."
