    EPIPHANY

I raised my head as I awoke
And remembered a vision in my dreams that spoke
Of things I wished that I had done,
Of places to which I wish I'd run,
Of words I wished that I had spoken,
Of promises I wished I'd never broken.

And there, right behind my waking eyes
Was an endless list of alibis
Of becauses, ifs and avoidance dances,
Of not enough time and just-missed chances,
Of clinging to chains while professing to be free,
Of hiding so well that I lost me.

I quickly laid my head back down
Before my thoughts caused me to drown
If they return when I revive
    I'll have endless alibis
    To help me to survive.

I'm afraid we're all guilty of making excuses here and there, and they take so many forms the supply is seemingly endless... Unfortunately... I suppose it's a real shame we let ourselves sometimes fall easy prey to procrastinations of the truth, even if that sometimes means survival, eh..??? Good write...

Thanks for the comment...I am easy prey when it concerns survival, for sure!

I absolutely love this. So very often I have dreams that show me my past, present and sometimes the future that I want. It's seems so vivid and so real that I am upset because I had awaken at the wrong moment. Usually it's a moment in my dream that I just don't want to end or a moment right before something wonderful is going to happened. I try to fall back to sleep to get back to where I was but it never works. The dream world is a wonderful, amazing and sometimes scary place. But most of the time it's so much more exciting than my reality. Thank you again for sharing this piece. Take care

well, thanks for your comment. I, too, very often would like to spend more time in reverie. Take care.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
