drowning

silly me
i didn't see
when all the signs were there
silly you
you had no clue
we needed each other most & didn't bother to care
we carried on
oblivious to each other's cries
for help, attention, and a stronger bond
never stopped to notice
the recklessness of this
or that all we had to do was hold on
now we are left here
barely afloat
drifting beyond sight of one another
without a paddle to steer
or even a boat
we won't have the chance to find each other

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
