Count Down

I need
More then 10 seconds to tell you a story

Of how men of chocolate
Baby Boomers
X’s
And Bridges
Hold 9’s
Selling dope to
Try and grab figure 8’s
Crosses to show religions
But living by the

7
Of sins
Bass blasting songs of
Three 6’s
Blue 5’s
Cuffing
Slamming
Brown faces on
Gray chipped concrete

Blood

Bloods
And Crips fighting
4 chains and whips

It was 3
Mom
Dad
Birthed
He

A man who’s name was related to the sun
Ray

Who carried 2 things
Precious cargo
And pen and a notebook

Moving his 1 tongue to the rhythm he had written himself

Wishing to remove those bars he was born with

Bars
Bars that covered
Clay men like bar codes
Price check for a black man?
Price check?
0

Writing
Writing
Running his pen
Like they were the soles of his feet
Running from numbers branded by colorless faces
Running from numbers counted from the minds of brainwashed men
Running
Running
Running

Count down to redemption
Count down to freedom
Count down to a reachable dream
5….4…..3…..

wow i really, really liked this poem. i love the style and the idea of the countdown. this was really cool! keep writing :)

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
