Captain of my Fate (from "Invictus")
I am the Captain of my fateMy hand firmly on the wheel
I care not if a storms ahead
Or if warning bells all peal;
That danger lurks ahead
The sea is at its worst
I shall defeat the tempest
Though others met its curse
For I am the exception
I am not like lesser men
It matters only where I go
And not where you have been
You warn me of the course ahead
It matters not to me
For I am the exception
And shall defeat this raging sea
My course is set and shall not change
I will surely beat this gale
It matters not the bow is crushed
And tatters are my sail
The wreckage lies upon the shore
The Captain has been bested
He would not heed the warnings
Of others who've been tested
A battered spirit barely rose
From the wreckage on the beach
And those who warned him heedlessly
Salvage all that they can reach
For deafened ears that would not heed
The danger warnings told
A young brave sailor such as he
Would not listen to the old
Bad experience told to him
And still he made the choice
To heed his youth and ego
And squelch that nagging voice
And now he seeks the help of those
Whose words he would not heed
And so, like every mortal soul
He finds out that he bleeds
