    Breathe

    This is defeat.
    I wrap solitude around me,
    Like a thick shawl
    On a cool starry evening.

    This is defeat.
    Loss trembles
    Like the surface of water
    Brushed by a breeze.

    This is defeat.
That the best of me was given
And the least of me remains.
Losing you -- a worthy gain.

But the loss of every inch I gave,
Has whittled me down in size.
    My independence offered
    Was taken and devoured.

    This is defeat
    And solitude,
    My welcome guest.

    I close my eyes,
    And breathe.

A superbly writen poem of anguish at the loss of love and relief at the reconnection with life.

"Loss trembles Like the surface of water Brushed by a breeze" — this is amongst the best of poetic lines to be penned. This poem reflects the heart of a true poet.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
