Attraction to Thorns

Attraction to Thorns

It’s an unbearable feeling when you’re attracted to thorns.

I’m attracted to a rose that pushes me away and causes my heart to be torn.

The tighter I hold this plant the deeper the thorns sink.

I feel my words and actions have no affect so all I can do is think.

Before the thorns appeared I felt this radiant plant was slipping from my arms.

It’s got to be some other reason I’m holding on because I see other plants so it can’t be just the charm.

The fact that this plant kept stabbing me over and over is the reason I dropped it.

The pain felt endless and nobody but the plant that was causing it could stop it.

When I realized what I was doing I tried to pick this rose back up.

But this time the thorns hurt twice as bad and my hands were stuck.

The thorns ran so deep.

It was enough to make a grown man weep.

I still hold this plant tight and close to my soul.

But the thorns go deeper everyday and are ripping my body whole.

I will continue to embrace this plant with everything I have even though my spirit is torn.

And that is my true meaning of attraction to thorns.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
