As One
I hear your voice echo in the surf,
As the ocean reaches the shore. It chills my feet and my heart,
As your memory fills my being.
You come to me in the morning sun.
You warm me with your quiet grace.
Sometimes I smell your body,
Warm from your bath still damp.
The phone rings, you will not be there
Never again will I hear your voice.
Never again will you light up a room,
Or hear your faint whisper in my ear.
Rainy days are cold and sad.
We would linger in bed and enjoy the time.
In quiet moments you would come to me,
And I bless the time you had in my life.
What terrible thing have we done?
Why is this chasm between us?
I reach out at night and you are not there
I cry out but you can never be there.
How can such love cause such pain?
How long will it hurt to hear your name?
How long will it hurt to remember your face?
How long before your memory fades?
If time heals all, how much must pass,
Before our souls can touch again?
Perhaps when time does end,
We can again be as one again.
