ARE YOU LISTENING?
Can you hear My voice,
In the rustle of the leaves
As the wind whistles by:
In the songs of birds
Flying in the sky.
Can you hear My laugh
In the gurgle of the brooks
As its water lap the shores
That’s my voice for sure.
Can you hear Me whisper
Sweet nothings in your ear
In the noisome trill and buzz
A mosquito leaves in your ear.
Can you see My smile
In the colours of the dawn
And the rising of the sun
What I’m trying to say is
I’m glad you’re my son.
Can you feel My kiss
On your forehead and your lips
In the bright rays of the sun
Shining bright like golden flax newly spun.
Can you feel the gentility of My touch
As you lie in bed at night
And slivers of the moon’s glow
Embrace you tight
Like fingers splayed across your skin
And trickle down your checks
On your face I spill the moonlight.
Can you hear My song’s melody
In the gentle patter of the rain
As it falls softly against your windowpane
Soothing rhythms: I’m calling your name.
Now, dear child, listen again
To the cadence as I hoove and clop
Tap dancing for you sweet one
In the pitter-patter of the rain on your rooftop.
Look up and into the skies,
Lay back, think and unwind
Relax your ever-bustling mind
Baby girl, it’s your time to shine.
Now, can you see me wink
In the myriads of stars as they blink
Fading in and out of the sky dark like ink
That strangely and closely resembles my kitchen sink.
Now swivel your head, left and right
Turn it again, stop there and catch the light
Glinting off my multicoloured raiment’s, bright
My coat of many colours; your rainbow, a panoramic sight.
Can you hear My rumbling laugh
And My sobs all at once
In the resonance of the clapping thunder
And the measured lilt of the raindrops
Pulsing against your windowpane
Soothing rhythms calling your name
My tear drops falling to ease your pain
That’s Me just trying to make your day.
And can you hear Me sing
In the trilling ring and din
And the tranquil lap of waves
Ocean’s serene waters are at it again.
Take a step back, my dear
Not quite enough, darling, so take two
Give us a smile and snatch that flash
Of lightning streaking across the blue
You’re a natural, the perfect model, I dare say
Now I’ve got your portrait tucked up and away.
Now for you, My masterpiece I paint
An explosion in every imaginable hue
A dazzling sundown, a versed intermingling of colours,
The superlative adieu.
Perched on a mountaintop against a backdrop so pure
Listen to my orchestra in the night sounds
And ignore the ballyhoo
In the rustle of the leaves
As the wind whistles by:
In the songs of birds
Flying in the sky.
Can you hear My laugh
In the gurgle of the brooks
As its water lap the shores
That’s my voice for sure.
