    Amerika the Rueful.

Amerika, the Rueful, can't remember when it was originaly written, but is a parody on the poem; America the Beautiful. It was published once in 1991, in a local Seattle Journal; Native Voices, and was my first poem published without having to pay to have it published. Let me know what you think?

    Amerika, the rueful.

Oh polluted are our spacious skies,
    our Amtrak trains a bane!
Our purple mountains are all strip mined.
The top soil's eroded from the plain!

    Amerika, Amerika!

The Indian's blood is shed on thee!
    And crown thy hood,
    with unwed motherhood,
    from sea to Manifest destiny!

This poem, I believe, shows that the poet has a watch that goes to the depth of events

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
