    Alienation

    I feel so different
    From those around me
Why do they look at me so strange?
What is it that they see?
    I’m from a different place
A land that seems so dark
I came here to change things for me
I’m looking to make a mark.

        Alienation all around me
I just cannot seem to win
        Everyone looks right through me
Not seeing the pain I am in
        I try to fit in
In a society where I do not belong
        Different thoughts and values
        Guess I’m not that strong
        Damn this alienation

    Now I fight a battle
That I know I’ll never win
A futile attempt to make contact
Yet, still, I refuse to give in
I won’t sit down and die
    And I refuse to disappear
I will find the voice inside me
Loud enough for this whole world to hear

        Alienation all around me
        I cannot seem to win
        Everyone still stares through me
But still I won’t give in
The mistake was trying to fit in
        In a world I don’t belong
        Different thoughts and different values
I’ll show them all I’m strong
        To hell with this alienation

I am who I will always be
    That, they cannot change
    No longer do I care
If I seem different or deranged
To hell with those who hate me
    For reasons I don’t see
The only thing I can figure
Is that they are jealous of me

        Alienation all around me
Time to tear down the walls
Time for me to show them
That what they knew was false
No more trying to fit in
In this world we ALL belong
        Different beliefs and different values
And none of them are wrong
I am stronger than you think
        Fuck the alienation

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
