African Safari
Let your hands carry out a gentle coup d’état over my Africa
let it melt the snow capped peak of Mount Kilimandjaro
Exposing the moist dark brown Earth beneath
ready to receive the gift of life flowing from you
Already the persistent rhythmic waves of pleasure
pulsate through my Africa
Their echoes can be heard over the plains of my Serengeti
Like a drum calling my Africa to move and jive
to its intoxicating rhythm and persistent beat.
Oh, how can I resist letting you journey through my Africa.
Explore my Namib Desert full of ancient wisdom
and curvaceous sand dunes receptive to the shifting winds
as it is moulded and shaped to reflect the mood of the wind.
Sometimes gentle and humble
and at times passionate and consummate
demanding complete surrender
and my Africa’s resistance crumbles.
Plunge into my Lake Victoria where cool water envelope you
Finally quenching your thirst and
the silence is hummed to life by a hummingbird
beating its wings faster and faster
while sucking the nectar from my honeysuckle until it
flows in exuberant abundance.
The sunset explodes in a spectacular spectrum of colour
vividly illuminating your Africa
