    adolescence

    back in 87...
... it was me, who was a kid.
    No point to mention
    what mom and dad did.
    Pops landed prison.
    Mom landed alone.
    Pull me by my arm,
to put me on the phone.
    Waiting on the line...
just to hear him yell at me.
    Instilling discipline from the penitentiary?
    His words, I couldn't hear.
    The facts, I couldn't see...
    ... dealing with life,
    before becoming a teen.

Read your other poems too.Just as it's good to share joyful esperiences in life, it helps emotionally to share painful ones too. Keep writing.

Yes it can be very much a cathartic experience to utilize poetry or other forms of art to express emotion.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
